Spark
Maybe it’s the hour
Maybe He’s busy
Or the seasons change
Maybe He can’t find his hat
Or I finally went too far
There is a simple heat
To the love of God
That makes it almost unbearable
To those of us who
In folly
Sometimes see simple
As easy
One day
I may stand bare
Before a universe
Cold
Under the reaping winds
Only to learn
It was a beautiful story
With an ending that appealed to me
Or else
I will see his face
And there aren’t words for that
I may never be a favorite
I may never be everything I want
Or any of the small things
I sacrificed so much for
Like David
After Gods own heart
But kind of a fuck up
Whatever way it crumbles
Whichever way it rips to shreds
Or the blood drenched times
It is crucified
Entombed
And resurrected
He is my absolute
“So then Love walked up to Like
And said I know that you don’t like me much,
But let’s go for a ride.”
I will disobey
Make mistakes
Tear the envelope to pieces
Hesitate when I should run
Take off when I should wait
Wrestle when I should be still
I will always
Lift the veil back
Rescind
Wash my face
Call Him Lord
One day
I may stand bare
Before the widening universe
“White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.”
Like the unicorn
At the end of the chronicles
Realize
“The term is over: the holidays have begun. The dream is ended: this is the morning.”
And it was worth the skin of my teeth
